Ritchie asks him about what he considers Grant's delusion and he explains it again: when Grant dies, everyone else in this world dies. In his cell, Grant is expecting Ritchie to arrive at 9, since he always does. He begs for Ritchie to go talk to Grant and really listen to what he has to say, which Ritchie reluctantly agrees to. That maybe he believes he could never be a successful district attorney or married to a woman like Carol in any real world. Ritchie tries to dismiss it, but Carson yells at him that there's probably a part of him that does believe their world is just a dream. When Ritchie asks if he really believes Grant's story that the world will end when he dies, Carson admits that he's been talking to Grant and can't help but feel scared that maybe he's right. Carson shows up drunk and advises that they all drink and be merry, for they only have a few hours left before Grant's execution. Any second.any second.Ĭut to Ritchie's house, where his wife Carol (Anne Barton) is preparing dinner. All that's left is the feeling of anticipation to when they pull the switch. Jiggs is dismissive of it at first, but Grant continues with how they strap you into the chair, wire you up to electrodes, and pull the musty mask down over your face. When he wonders what it's going to be like, Grant says he can tell him exactly what it's going to be like: a 78-step walk to a green door, where a guard lets him into an empty tan room that has just one chair in it. ![]() Grant say it's different with him, but Jiggs disagrees.
